Well after the winter league ended had a couple of teammates ask if I would bowl with them this summer so I said sure. Well the league ended and we were in fourth place. That is cool with me because I was mainly bowling to stay in shape and keep everything up to par for winter league.
Now I started a little slow in the summer league but gradually increased everything until I was averaging 230. Then I had one of those nights where it didn't matter where or what angle I hit the pocket I just couldn't buy a strike. So that dropped my average down to 228 and I was really looking forward to finally breaking that 230 mark. So the next week I hunkered down and threw a 710 series and I knew there was still a chance so the last week I threw a 734 and I was hoping that would be enough. But since the sheets were wrong i couldn't total it myself.
But when she made the announcement last night that I had high average and it was 230.1 I was thrilled. The funny thing is I got there a little early and was practicing which I hardly ever do. I was trying a new ball that I had only threw a few times 2 weeks ago and after warming up with a different ball I said the next two games will be nothing but the new ball no matter what.
Well after my first of 216 I threw the new Cell ball and hey what do you know I threw a 300 and then a 257 so I really like the new ball a lot.
Saw the post for Bowler of the Month and the guy listed had a 761 series and I remember bowling a 778 on June 26th so I was kind of puzzled on why I didn't win. So an email was sent and the guy answered and said I never received your high score from your secretary.
So needless to say I was not happy and she hasn't posted the 795 I rolled this month either so I asked her about it and she got very defensive and said well I have sent all of your scores to this person and that person. So then after a minute she finally said "Well it was probably my fault because I didn't send it in specifically for Bowler of The Month". So I asked her to please make sure she sends my July high score in.
The bowling alley I go to also gives you gift certificates to their pro shop and granted I have had a few this year and it has been enough to purchase two new bowling balls. But I rolled a 300 about 2 months ago and they still have not given me my certificate yet and I have broght it up a few times and they continue to say we will get it taken care of soon.
Okay I am bowling this summer and we are 9 weeks in to a 14 week league. I had my regular teammates ask me if I would bowl with them on the league and I said sure why not. We added another bowler from another team and we were off. Now after the first week where everyone really bowled well for some reason the next 4-5 weeks the wheels fell of and the other guy dropped 36 pins off of his initial average and yes he bowled really well the first week.
Now I didn't really take off big and just kind of went along not doing much and we were not winning games because most of the other teams force us to make up at least 100-200 pins of handicap which as you know is tough if they show up at all. Now the last 3 weeks ahve been a little better for me but I could kick myself in the arse for not finishing out after the first two game and so in the last two weeks I have blown two very makeable 800 series and it just pisses me off.
So last week I started with 275 -278 and then I dropped to a 225 for a 778 series and then last night I threw two games exactly the same and that goes for the place where I had my 10 pin tap. I had the first 10 on both games for a 289-289 start and then I got hot and frustrated and rolled a 217 :( because I had a guy bowling next to me that wanted to talk to me about what I needed to do and what game I need to throw and so on. Plus they have taken down the cover entrance on the back door and just about the third game the sun is beating in to the house and it gets hot and the glare is horrible but still no excuse I blew two very easy 800 series. I am a very quiet person when I bowl and try not to think about what I have to do all I ever want to do is bowl strikes.
Three weeks ago I was averaging about 215 and this week it jumped up to 221 after my 778 series so it will probably jump a few more after my 791 series last night.
I guess I am the only person that gets pissed off when he bowls well :)
Well it has been a very busy summer so far and I just have not had much time to post so I will try and catch up.
The Mixed State was a while back and the only thing I placed in was the scratch all events with a 2029 total. I figured the lanes out after the first 2 games of the team event and knew exactly how to play them for doubles and singles. So after lack luster first two games of team I didn't look back and shot a 245 for the 3rd game. Now when I returned the next day I knew exactly what I wanted to throw and shot a 738 in doubles (wife struggled) and then a 680 in singles so not bad for lanes I had never been on. Plus I was the only person to place in the tournament on my team in anything.
Okay this will be my first post and I will follow up with my summer league post.
Okay the state mixed is this weekend and is also the final weekend. So I dropped by to check out the lanes last weekend and it is a pretty small house and was recently remodeled for the first time since it opened in the 70's. I watched the shot and the times that we are bowling they will not be treating the lanes and they still looked pretty slick even after two sets but i will tell you this the third set which was their singles those lanes were drying out quickly. It actually looked a little like the shot we have at my home lanes. So I guess I will wait and see this weekend.
They have an addition on one end and they have added the automatic scorers and of course they have the big monitors above your head where you see all of the scores. Well here is the kicker the monitors on the addition side only sit about 6" to 6'2" off of the ground and they are right over the approach where you stand. Now if you are over 6' like myself this can be a problem. I wateched one guy that had to duck his head everytime he walked back from bowling because he was about 6'4" tall.
I asked the guy behind the counter about this and his recommendation was you will just have to change your approach. DUH!
